The White Mare at Beckermet has won one of the top national awards in the pub and bar trade.
Owner, Dianne Irving was named as the Best Newcomer in Britain at the annual Great British Pub Awards ceremony at London’s Hilton on Park Lane. The Great British Pub Awards are widely recognised as “the Oscars” of the pub and bar trade and attract thousands of entries from across the country. This year’s awards were hosted by Canadian comedienne, Katherine Ryan.
This award follows the White Mare being named as the Best Pub in Cumbria at the National Pub and Bar Awards earlier in the year.
Dianne, a former Primary School Headteacher, opened the fully refurbished White Mare in May 2015, following a 25 year career in education. Since then, the White Mare has gone from strength to strength, culminating in two major awards.
Dianne said “I am delighted with what we have achieved in such a short time at the White Mare. I could not have dreamed that we would win at both of the main trade pub and bar awards in our first year of operation.
I am particularly proud of our staff, who have worked tirelessly to deliver fantastic meals, drinks and service to our customers. It is also great to get recognition for the village of Beckermet, which has supported us from day one”.
